      It was recently stated that the course of boring operations in the neighbourhood of their Seafield Works, the Pumpherston Oil Company had come upon a new. and, it was believed, extensive seam of shale. Further boring has confirmed early expectations. A considerable area has now been proved, and there is every reason to assume that the deposit is of wide extent. So far the bed is of good workable thickness, and the quality that of the famous Pumpherston shale. Mines are being sunk rapidly possible to the seam, but some months must elapse before a beginning can be made with the getting of the shale. There no doubt that the find will prove a valuable addition to the resources of the Company.
