Inclined adit

Serving Pumpherston Oil Works

A short-lived mine exploiting the Broxburn Shales. Two very substantial brick plinths survive, presumably the base of the haulage engine house, also a modest bing of waste shale. Trees and shrubs cover the site of the adit. Immediately to the north of the mine site, a number of reed beds were constructed c. 2000 as part of the remediation of the Pumpherston Oil Works site.

Shale-field: Pumpherston shale-field.

Mapped by the Ordnance Survey of c.1895, prior to opening of mine.
