Hopetoun No.35 pit

TO PIT SINKING CONTRACTORS

OFFERS WANTED to SINK No 35 PIT, HOPETOUN, near Winchburgh, from a depth of 26½ Fathoms, where it now stands, to about 80 Fathoms. Copy of Specification and any other information may be had from Messrs Johnstone & Rankine, Mining Engineers, 235 West George Street, Glasgow, and from the Company's Local Mining Manager, Mr Rankine, Hopetoun Works, Winchburgh. Tenders to be lodged with the Undersigned on or before Monday, 16th. The Directors do not bind themselves to accept the lowest or any offer.

The miners in No.35 pit, belonging to Messrs Young's Oil Co., have again been thrown idle on account of the water rising. Pumping operations are in full swing, and it is expected the miners will be able to resume work in a few days.

The opening up of the ground beyond the Waterstone fault has proceeded satisfactorily and the shale is of excellent quality (June 1924). The Broxburn seam is opening up well beyond the fault recently crossed (March 1925).
