Redwood lists the site as "Sevinhill Oil Works" active between 1865 and 1870.

The first edition OS map (c.1864) shows an industrial complex on the Swinehill colliery site, including coke ovens, tile kilns, and oil retorts. The site appears to have continued as a colliery for many years after these secondary processes were abandoned.

      Private Bargain, these Works situated at Swinehill near Stonehouse , consisting of 10 cast iron retorts, cast-iron connecting pipes and large malleable iron condensing mains, all complete and in good working order.
