Redwood notes the oil works, owned by James Palmer & Company, operated between 1866 and 1867.

The works were constructed by James Palmer & Co. in 1865, presumably as the refinery for crude oil they intended to produce at their Drumgray, and subsequently Drumcross crude oil works.

Following the bankruptcy of James Palmer & Co.in 1867 (see full account), the site remained empty for a number of years, and was then developed as the Clyde oil works of William P. Dick. This remained active as a general oil refinery between 1873 and c.1955
