One of the best known and most highly esteemed villagers, Mr Peter Shearer, passed away in Bangour Hospital on Thursday last after a few weeks illness. Mr Shearer, who was 67 years of age and who lived at 77 Wyndford Avenue, was until his retirement through ill-health a couple of years ago, employed as a miner with Scottish Oils, having worked in the shalemines for half a century.
