A short time ago I intimated that the Eastrigg or Bridgecastle Colliery had changed hands, and I am now pleased to state that company has been formed to work the mines. Tho company is strong one, and one that means business, so that an early development the mineral resources to the north of Armadale may bo looked for, especially when we know that such men as Mr Wood of Wallhouse, Mr Mitchell of Achingray, and Mr David Walker are the principal members of the firm.

Bridgehouse Colliery May Stop.
Sensational developments are expected to take place as the result of an announcement yesterday that meetings of the creditors of John Gardner (Collieries) Ltd., Glasgow, and four other colliery companies have been called for next week. The piquancy of the situation lies the fact that Glasgow Corporation, in the autumn of 1929, entered into a contract with Gardner's and two of the other companies for the supply of gas to begin in August, 1931. The meetings, which were intimated in the "Glasgow Herald" will be held in Glasgow. and the five panies concerned are: - John Gardner (Collieries) Ltd. Drumpellier and Craigrigg Collieries., The Banknock Coal Company, Ltd. The Mount Vernon Colliery Company, Ltd. Woodilee Coal and Coke Company, Ltd. It is in the Drumpellier and Craigrigg Collieries, Ltd., that interest is centred in Armadale and District, for they own Bridgehouse Colliery where, when on full work, as many as 200 workers are employed, and even during these quiet times, about 100 get work. For two weeks the colliery has been practically at a standstill. If this work stops, then the miners in Armadale, Westfield, and Torphichen will be seriously affected. The creditors of John Gardner Collieries Ltd., meet in Glasgow on Friday. February 6th. The Drumpellier and Craigrigg meeting and the Banknock meeting will be held on Friday of next week, and the two others on Thursday.
