This detailed view of the pithead area of Breich No. 1 & 2 pit. Nearest the camera is the timber? pithead gear of the upcast shaft with fan and fan drift for extracting foul air from the mine. The winding engine house for this shaft is smaller than that for the downcast shaft engine house (behind) that houses the main electric winding engine for bringing men and shale to the surface.
